Architectural Labour

Architectural Labour is the work of building the digital 'roads' and 'buildings' that AI needs to function, rather than just using the AI to do a task.

The specialized design and engineering of the underlying infrastructure—such as verification engines, orchestration layers, and CAGE templates—that enables AI systems to execute tasks reliably.

Design-bound work: building the systems, templates, verification engines, and orchestration through which AI and robots operate (CAGE templates, the harness, Queue triage). Intellectual in nature but distinct — it creates the infrastructure other labour runs through. (C4AIL, Whitepaper II §2.1.)
