The Eloquence Trap is the tendency to trust an AI just because it sounds smart and sure of itself. It is like believing a smooth-talking salesperson simply because they speak clearly, even if they have no idea what they are talking about; the danger is assuming that good grammar equals the truth.
The Eloquence Trap occurs when users conflate the fluency and confidence of AI-generated text with factual accuracy. It is a cognitive bias where the polished syntax of a model triggers an unearned sense of epistemic authority, leading professionals to bypass necessary verification steps because the output 'sounds' correct.
The danger that AI's fluent, confident, polished output is mistaken for correctness; people grant Epistemic Credit to syntax that mimics semantics.
