Spec Loop vs Chat Loop
A Chat Loop is like fixing a typo in a letter every time you write it, while a Spec Loop is like fixing the template so the typo never happens again. One wastes time repeating the same fix, while the other builds a better tool for the future.
A Chat Loop involves manually correcting AI outputs during a session, which provides no long-term benefit. A Spec Loop involves updating the underlying prompt, system instruction, or workflow specification so that the correction becomes a permanent, automated feature of all future outputs.
The behavioural shift that resolves the Knowledge Paradox: encode a correction into the template/substrate (Spec Loop - governance compounds, Knowledge Infrastructure grows) rather than patch the ephemeral conversation (Chat Loop - consumes AI as a commodity). Stop editing outputs, start editing specifications. (C4AIL.)
