The Five Roles
The Five Roles are a way to describe the different types of work people do when using AI, regardless of their official job title. Think of it like a theater production: some people are the actors on stage, some are the writers, some are the set designers, some are the directors, and some are the teachers training the next generation of performers.
The Five Roles categorize human labor within AI-integrated workflows based on specific functional contributions rather than organizational hierarchy. These roles—Floor User, Translator, Architect, Orchestrator, and Trainer—define how an individual interacts with, bridges, builds, manages, or improves the AI system to ensure consistent, high-quality outcomes.
The AI-age role set: Floor User (works through AI, validates output, the backbone), Translator (bridges domain and AI), Architect/Amplifier (builds Logic Pipes and verification engines), Orchestrator (designs and governs the system, owns the outcome), Trainer (maintains the human pipeline).
