The Harness

The Harness is the reliable, predictable shell built around an AI model. Think of it like a car's safety features—like seatbelts and brakes—that keep the engine under control, ensuring that even if the AI makes a mistake, the system stays safe and follows the rules.

The Harness is the deterministic software infrastructure that wraps a probabilistic model to enforce operational governance. It manages the 98% of system logic—such as audit trails, kill switches, and autonomy constraints—ensuring that the model remains a swappable component within a strictly controlled, auditable environment.

The engineered software wrapper that enforces governance around the probabilistic model: the Contextual Check and Horizon gates live in the harness, not the model, because a probabilistic engine cannot be trusted to police itself. The substrate half of the 98/2 Principle. (C4AIL.)
